Your machine is infected. Pop-ups are mostly caused by adware, spyware, and other malicious and unwanted software and using pop-up blocker won’t help an infected PC. No single program can detect and eradicate all spyware and I recommend using Ad-aware and Spybot (they are free). Other great free anti-spyware programs would be Super anti-spyware and AVG anti-spyware (formally Ewido).

Running these programs in Safe Mode (tap F8 as the computer boots up and choose to boot to safe mode) can be more effective.

If you do not have an updated anti-virus program always running, you need to get one. Install only one, but you can get AVG, Avast! or AntiVir for free.

I strongly recommend using FireFox, it’s a far better and safer alternative to Internet Explorer. If you add-on McAfee SiteAdvisor, it will warn you of potentially harmful sites. I also recommend CCleaner which is a free system optimization and privacy tool.

It is not actually just a popup. you are infected with malware.

You can find the removal tool here:
XP antivirus is on its list of malware that it removes. Follow the instructions and it should remove it for you. It’s free.

A pop-up blocker is not the solution to your problem.

Your computer is badly infected. Probably a smitfraud infection.

“XP Antivirus 2008 is a rogue antivirus utility that uses false positives to lure the user into buying the product.”

The removal tool called RogueRemover Free specialises in this sort of malware
Use the free version. There is absolutely no reason to use the paid, “Pro” version when you want to remove only.

After running RogueRemover, to clean-up any remaining infection traces, scan for trojans,
and spyware etc and remove (free online scan, no downloaded program) with Ewido Online Scanner ( now known as AVG Anti-Spyware). This is NOT the same as AVG Anti-Virus. Press “Scan your computer now online and clean it for free!” on the left.

    Good luck.

XpAntivirus is a rogue antivirus program that may display fake virus scan results to trick you into purchasing a full version to remove the viruses on your system. To get rid of XpAntivirus, try SmitFraudFix (free).
